Supercritical CO₂, engineered for industry

Above 31 °C and 74 bar, CO₂ becomes supercritical: it has the density of a liquid and the diffusivity of a gas. It is non-toxic and inert, and it leaves no residue when it returns to a gas. Biotech One turns these properties into robust, scalable industrial processes

Why scCO₂

A clean fluid with industrial leverage

Low temperature

Gentle processing for heat-sensitive products.

Penetrating power

The diffusivity of a gas with the density of a liquid.

Selectivity

Tunable solvent power through pressure and temperature.

No residue

CO₂ returns to a gas and leaves no unwanted by-products.

How EncapX® works

Feed. Form. Collect

A continuous millifluidic path, pinned as you scroll

  1. 01

    Feed

Lipids, your active ingredient and an aqueous phase enter the system with supercritical CO₂.

Pressure and flow rates set the starting conditions.

  2. 02

    Form

In pressure-controlled millifluidic channels, vesicles self-assemble around the active ingredient, continuously, at 35 °C.

Channels about 1,000 times wider than microfluidic chips keep the process clog-free while the bilayer closes around the gold core.

  3. 03

    Collect

CO₂ returns to a gas and leaves no residue. Uniform nanoliposomes or LNPs come out ready for formulation.

Particle size, distribution and encapsulation efficiency are measured on the collected stream.

Millifluidics, not microfluidics

Wider channels. Continuous runs. Same process at every scale

Microfluidic chips use micrometre channels that clog and must be multiplied to scale up. EncapX® uses pressure-controlled millifluidic tubes about 1,000 times wider, so production runs continuously, without clogging, and scales without changing the process. Whatever the target scale, EncapX® forms the same particles: industrial scale is reached by multiplying the same device, not by redeveloping the process.
